Synopsis

For almost 50 years, the five ex Soviet Republics of Central Asia have witnessed one of the worst environmental disasters: the shrinking of the Aral Sea. The lake began to dry out from the early 60s, causing climatic changes, shifting grounds, public health threats, as well as economical downturn… Sylvain Tesson travels in the area in order to understand the reasons, the problems as well as the consequences on the local life of this potentially global phenomenon.
