Hiroshima marks an end and a beginning. On the one hand, the bombardment of the Japanese city puts a symbolic end to WW2. After six long years of fighting, the nightmare is finally over. On the other hand, it also marks the entry into a new era. Men have just invented a weapon so powerful, that it can annihilate human civilization, eradicating human beings from the face of the globe. The world is to enter an unprecedented configuration dominated by nuclear anxiety. Yet, one needs to go back twenty years earlier, to really understand his major turning point.
