Synopsis

In 2019, the world celebrates the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. During 28 years, it split Germany, separating friends and families. However, in spite of the constant high security level, more than 5 000 people succeeded in crossing it and fleeing from Communism.

With exclusive access to recently released footage, filmed all along the wall by a Canadian photographer in 1987, this documentary will tell the stories of amazing escapes. Some people dug tunnels, others flew balloons or wore fake uniforms, in order to join their beloved, or simply to attain freedom. Take for example the ingenuity of the guy who hid his fiancée in one big suitcase that looked like two small ones…

This one-off will recount the most thrilling stories by adding fictional sequences shot at the historic escape sites. It will highlight the great imagination and courage of those who managed to attain freedom by crossing the wall of Shame…
